Inspired by a magnificent silver fish-shaped besamim box from nineteenth-century Vienna, whose unblinking eyes symbolize G-d’s constant and eternal watchfulness, children will engage in a multi-sensory exploration of Havdalah, discovering the beauty, symbolism, spirituality, and tradition of hiddur mitzvah, the beautification of Jewish ritual objects and mitzvot through art.
Children will design and create their own functional besamim boxes, complete with fragrant cloves to enhance the sensory experience of Havdalah.
