Inspired by Don Manuel Osorio Manrique de Zuñiga, 18th-century Spanish artist Francisco de Goya’s celebrated portrait and one of the most beloved children-and-animal paintings in this world-famous museum and in art history, children will explore the theme of Parshat Noach: Animals in Art.
While museum rules usually remind visitors “no touching,” bringing a small piece of the museum experience home invites children to do exactly the opposite. They can touch, manipulate, move, rearrange, recreate, and reimagine, taking their time to wonder, experiment, and delight in imagination.
In this hands-on experience, children become the artists themselves, reflecting on the animals featured in the parsha story while designing imaginative animal portraits inspired by the masterpiece, with Don Manuel, their favorite animals, or even themselves as the star.
